Volunteering with Community Ministries

There are many ways to volunteer at All Angels' Church.  These are the descriptions of several areas of need in Community Ministries.  Please make use of our Volunteer Inquiry Form if you are not a regular All Angels' attendant who is interested in lending a hand.


Outreach Partner (Pathways)
Scope Be a liaison between the Medical/ Social service team and the active participant through relationship-building and empowering engagement.
Duties Provide empathy, compassionate conversation and active listening. Offer comfort, hope and prayer when needed. Engage the participant to follow through on various referrals made by the medical team and assist with overcoming barriers to independence.  Learn and apply basic assessment strategies to help direct the participant through the cities’ network of services. (Optional) If possible escort participant to various appointments in the community.      Training will be provided. 
Time Commitment At least once per week on either Tuesdays or Thursdays for at least 2 hours per day. The hours are between 10 AM and 2:00 PM. 


Pathways Server
Scope Provide hospitality for the Pathways Program.
Duties Set up tables and chairs, greet guests, make coffee, cut bread, replenish food as necessary and clean up pantry and Palmer Hall.
Time Commitment Tuesdays and Thursdays; At least one shift per week
2 Shifts: 8:30am to 11am
                11am to 1pm


Pantry Helper
Scope Assist with the food Pantry.
Duties Help Purchase/ Collect food for the Pantry.
Time Commitment The Last Sunday of the month for about 2 hours in the afternoon.


Shelter Volunteer
Scope
Provide oversight and monitoring to Sunday night shelter with staff person.
Duties
Set up and break down shelter beds, dispense fresh linens and sort used ones. Sleep in close proximity to homeless guests to monitor safety.  Serve Breakfast. Create a warm, loving environment.
Time Commitment
Stay overnight one Sunday every 6 weeks.


Researcher
Scope Research current trends that affect the poor and homeless of NYC.
Duties Search the internet, visit organizations and attend meetings to gather information. Transmit data to Director of Community Ministries.
Time Commitment At least 2 to 4 hours per month.


Administrative Helper
Scope Provide administrative support to Director of Community Ministries.
Duties Possible tasks: help organize volunteer teams, create spreadsheets for keeping data, assist the DCM with grant writing, and other administrative tasks.
Time Commitment Help with one individual project or on a weekly basis for up to 2 hours per week.
